Zambian Proverb: Imiti iikula empanga. Directly translates, today's bushes are tomorrows forest. Which means, today's children are tomorrows leaders. It has been said that Education is for improving the lives of others and for leaving your community and world better than you found it (Marian Wright Edelman). Unfortunately, for over 115 million children around the world there is little or no opportunity to gain even a basic primary education. In 2007 in Zambia 57% of all primary aged children were attending schools, leaving a huge gap including the 1.1 million orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) in Zambia. These OVCs have little hope of attending formal schooling. This is a huge injustice, especially when we consider the value and choices that education can bring into the lives of those who have the opportunity. Lack of education continues to escalate poverty and enhances the risk of children suffering a range of abuses that no child should endure. Visit UNICEF for further information on Zambian statistics Our Education Program focuses on providing quality education for OVCs, imparting Christ-like values that give children a moral basis from which to make good choices. We do not aim only to see a rise in living standards within the community, but hope to see a community that lives with Christ-like values. We believe children can be a catalyst for change and so aim to achieve this through: Eagles Wings Christian Community School - Monkey Fountain CampusIn 2010, our MFC will educate up to 210 children from Grades 1-7, targeting children from extremely poor families throughout our surrounding community. Eagles Wings Christian Community School - Kanyala CampusIn 2010, KC will educate up to 100 children providing a basic education in literacy and numeracy for a Preschool level, up to Grade Two. Adult EducationOur Adult Education Program gives basic literacy, numeracy and small business skills (tailoring) training to illiterate woman who had little opportunity to attend school in their childhood. Government SponsorshipGovernment Sponsorship is available for children who are beyond the grade levels offered at MFC. Government Sponsorship is also used for children reintegrated with their existing families through our Family Program. Further EducationFurther training and education is available for students completing secondary school who have the potential and enthusiasm to progress to further formal study or gain a trade skill.
